The four-stroke exhaust system business is a competitive one. And with numerous companies are out there producing what they claim to be the next best addition to your four-stroke motocross machine, making a decision on what to purchase is always a challenge. Point being, sometimes it’s difficult to really know if you’re getting your money’s worth out of your purchase. Here at Motocross.com we’ve tested quite a few exhaust set ups, all with varying degrees of success and performance gains, and all with a rather high price tag.
As a fairly new addition to the exhaust wars, Rocket Exhaust offers various full systems for nearly every bike out there, and without the super high price tag of other companies. We’ve been riding with their Racer Series system on our ’08 CRF250R, and we must say, we are impressed, but we’ll get to that in a minute. Right now, we’re going to go through some of the features behind the system.
Rocket Exhaust actually produces three different types: the Racer Series, Stealth Series, and Carbon Series. We tested the Racer Series on our Honda. The set up features an aluminum muffler and end cap, and a stainless steel header and mid pipe. The end cap can be changed out with various different colors that are offered by Rocket, and right underneath it, there is an easily removable cone spark arrestor. The muffler also features a machined bracket to hold it in place. And in case you haven’t noticed yet, rather than the stock dual system found on the CRF250R, this system only comes equipped with one can.
We must say that before we rode with the Racer Series set up, we were a little skeptical about how it would perform. We’ve ridden with a Rocket Exhaust system in the past and we weren’t super impressed. Once we made our way out on the track and busted out our first lap, though, we immediately knew that this particular set up was different, and a good improvement over our last experience. From the initial crack of the throttle, the CRF comes to life when equipped with the Rocket Exhaust. The low-end power was improved immensely, and from there, the rest of the power characteristics were just as good. The mid was strong, and the top-end pull was good as well. The bike even revved out further than stock, something that we always are searching for when riding a 250cc four-stroke. As for durability, in the time we spent riding with the system, the tire rubbed on the side of the muffler, but other than that, it held up really well.
RATING
We haven’t yet ridden a long time with the system, so the durability is still up in the air. But for the price and the performance gain that you get, the Rocket Exhaust Racer Series System is probably one of the smarter choices you could make when shopping for an aftermarket exhaust.
