Got Gas?

Maybe I don’t watch the news enough, but when I do expect to see some sort of riots or something related to the price of gas. The oil companies are raping us and it looks like there is no end in sight. If you know me, you know that I am usually very optimistic and laid back in general. I have faith in others and probably trust people too much, but every time I pull in to get some fuel recently, this feeling of wanting to strangle somebody overcomes me!

I wonder how much of an effect this will have on our sport in the next few years. Imagine you are the president of Yamaha for example, and you have your factory semi crisscrossing the country for one rider, as they are now. Won’t it eventually become difficult to justify the need to support factory riders when the costs begin to completely outweigh the benefits? Seriously, how many people are going to run out and buy a new YZF450 because Josh Hill is out running mid-pack on one?

I know these ridiculous prices have created major changes in my house. I don’t have to answer to the president of Yamaha, but I am finding in it increasingly difficult to explain to my wife that I am going to go riding for a few hours, and it is going to cost about $80.00 in gas alone to make the trip. Don’t get me wrong, she is totally supportive of letting me ride whenever I want, but it has gotten to the point where I might have to take up surfing as my new form of exercise (I can ride my bike to the beach) and let moto be the special little treat I give myself once in a while. Fortunately I have a good friend that doesn’t mind the cost of gas that much yet and takes two of us out to StarWest once a week. I have been known to sneak out to the SX tracks on occasion to catch a glimpse of things to come, but that will probably become less frequent as well. I have noticed three bikes in the back of trucks a lot more than I used to. Maybe all of the boards should develop a separate forum to discuss carpooling, or in our case, truckpooling.

I think StarWest might have the right idea for marketing right now that may make the cost of gas not hurt so much. They have hired a beautiful young lady who goes by the name of Chelsea to take our money at the gate. I had a small chat with her, and you can expect to see more of her in the near future. I want to hear what you all think! What can we do to try and curb this problem?? What do you think the factories are going to do?? Lastly, how can we get the tracks to hire girls like Chelsea to work the gates and make agony of handing our money over a little less painful!

I completely agree with you B Dawg! On both the gas and the girl. But I am also thoroughly pissed off every time I have to fill up my truck! How is it that these companies can maintain record profits and all of the "commonfolk" suffer. I mean seriously, you have struck a nerve with me on this subject. What the hell is wrong with our fellow man? Why have we not organized and executed some sort of demonstration? I mean we don't need to chuck moletov cocktail's at the local gas station, but we need to speak out. We need to activate. If no one else in suburbia at least the motocross community, or the sand sports guys. Gawd I can't imagine what it costs to have a weekend in the dunes with a sand car nowa days. That used to be a white trash ho down. And now with the cost of everything you gotta make six figures in order to do that kind of stuff. I'm pissed. I am real pissed off and ready for a call to action. You can bet your ass that if there ever is an organized protest about this I'm taking the day off of work and going straight to the front of the line. This is hurting us all, and from the looks of things it's only going to get worse.-Cliff

What disgusts me, is that the media is finally starting to slowly bring to light (although they will never fully out them because they are in big oil's back pocket, just like everyone else that could make a difference for us) the fact that gas prices aren't up because there is a crude oil supply problem. The price of crude oil is up because the "speculators" are driving it up, and making already filthy stinking rich people that much more wealthy. Then you and I suffer in the end, not because we have to, because they want us to. You don't see any notices of possible gas rationing like the US had to do back in the day, there is plenty of gas, we're just getting raped for it. Forget riding, I haven't been able to in months, I'm much more concerned with making rent, feeding my daughters and getting to work right now, all as a result of paying double for gas what we did not too long ago. I personally drive 75-80 miles a day to get to work & the gym, which equates to about $21 a day, horrible! Enough of my rant.. Chelsea, you rock & I don't even know you. Every other track, forget that, every other establishment I frequent, should take note of Starwest's hiring ability!

The gas situation does suck....This is the first time in my life that I have to worry about the cost of gas do something (being it riding or going for a drive) Just last year I would take a drive to the mountains or ocean for cheap fun...not anymore...People who ride at Starwest are extremly lucky!!! I ride at a place named Riverfront in Nor Cal....and the gal working the gate is the ugliest little troll I have ever seen!!!!! The added a cute flag girl and there were several crashes at her spot....from the shock of seeing a cuttie!!!!
