Effective immediately, ONE Industries is terminating our 3 year contract with Ryan Dungey as a result of the recent events that have transpired during the last week.

"ONE Industries is an icon in the industry and when we launched our motocross apparel line we wanted to work with riders that we believed shared our ambitions and visions for the brand," says Danny Dobey, ONE Industries Brand Manager.

"Because our business is continually developing and growing in multiple directions we seek out riders and teams who want to contribute to the exciting and positive things we do, our introduction of Ryan showed the level of commitment and investment we were making in this project" adds Russ Koza, Marketing Manager of ONE Industries.

Neil Calvesbert, CEO of ONE Industries, comments "We signed a 3 year contract with Ryan and we were looking beyond that with the brand, so nobody enjoyed making this decision. Everyone involved with ONE Industries gives 100% to the company, the teams and riders we work with and I would like to thank them for their devotion, professionalism and nobility throughout the events that took place at Anaheim".

I understand, it's a conflict of interest if you bag on any gear company. Maybe you guys will run into Dungey at phoenix. Get him to say something aweful about ONE. That would be cool.

i agree with stilloldskool. im glad dungey stood his ground. this was an exclusive thing for dungey and it got screwed up. obviously the only thing going through ONE ind.'s minds was money and advertising. i think they should have kept dungey's best interests a top priority because like everyone says dungey will be in the spotlight for the next few years and that would have been HUGE for ONE. j-law is unpredictable. all in all i think that was a horrible move for ONE ind. now once j-law screws up(if he does)...ONE will be out of both riders.

I ws jsut thinking the exact same thing, this whole opening round hype has seemed a little like something you would see on WWE. Interviews, changes, suprises, its weird to me.

Just read that Fox has picked up Dungey, good company for a good rider. I hope that Ryan Dungey and Fox has a bunch of sucess this year. Then you have J-Law, hustling to get what he can get. I wanted to see him change for the better, cause he is a talented rider, but my gut is telling me otherwise. Dungey will still be on a factory bike in Fox gear in 2010 and J-Law will be riding for some crap bike shop in Jersey wearing some crap gear racing a crap bike in 2010, just how I see it...

If I was Dungey, I wouldn't want to be associated w/ anything that J-Law is tied to, sounds like One Industries wanted one to many roosters in the henhouse. IMHO, if you are starting up like they were (w/ the riding gear deal) then that was a mistake (A BIG ONE!!!) having those two associated together, seems a little too WWE'ish to me, you would never see someone like Answer, FOX, THOR or any of those companies pull some crap like that, signing RD earlier then getting J-Law on that roster, sounds like some schoolkid's wet dream, stirring up the two big dogs on the playground then wathching them clobber each other to a pulp until there is no one left standing. People in the MX/SX industry need to ensure that we maintain a high level of professionalism, not resort to Jerry Springer like tatics to get exposure. Good for RD that he is released from his One Contract and he can go and find someone worth a damn that will treat him with courtesy, respect and professionalism. As I mentioned before, just my humble opinion...

@StillOldSkool: There are certainly a number of marketing implications here for all brands involved (Dungey, ONE, LawDawg, etc.). Unfortunately for me (fortunately for you) my job is to now report the news, not wax poetic about the ins-and-outs of positioning and brand strategy. Overall, I'd say all parties involved lost, marketing and otherwise. If life were perfect, they'd play nice and both battle to be the "top ONE dog", but of course, life isn't perfect and Ryan (D) allowed this to get into his head. Bummer for him, for ONE, but fortunately for the rest of us, it's thrown a bit of gas on the fire. :-)

Oh, by the way, if someone also writes on the TWMX site, which sucks now. Tell Swap that Dungey's agent screwed him and he looks bad for reporting that it was all a rumor. http://motocross.transworld.net/2009/01/04/rumor-control-dungey-and-one-industries/

From what I read, Ryan signed with ONE to be the top rider on the team. Of coarse there would be others, but none on Dungey's level and he would, in return progress with ONE, eventually creating a signature line. ONE INDUST. was betting on success with this union, which would have been a solid bet for ONE. Ryan is young, talented, championship material and will move up to the big bikes and all eyes will be focused on him in the next 3 years, like it is for RV now. Not to mention he has a clean image and decent looks that, believe it or not, means something even in the MX industry. ONE INDUSTRY lost out big time, on this one. I love the fact that Dungey stood his ground and didn't remain quiet about his dissatisfaction with ONE making him share the spotlight with J-Law. If the wording was stated as Dungey would be the teams top guy, then it would explain why ONE let him out of the contract so easily. They didn't have to let Ryan go without a fight, they could have held him to it until there was a contract hearing in court. Get in here Worden. As a Marketing guy yourself, does it sound to you like Dungey has a case against ONE?? Or did he merely piss on his fire hydrant in the MX world?

Both Dungey and Lawrence are great riders, but I think Dungey has the edge, did you see how much time he made up on the leaders this weekend? Another 2 laps and he would have caught and passed them. J-Law knows it and is working to intimidate Dungey because he know he might not be able to beat him otherwise.

clint 7339 is exactly right. Lawrence is diffently in his head. he will never admit it and im sure he will be there till the end of the championship. he is a talented rider and a class act but if it was me personally i would have never have given up like that.
