'Twas three days after Christmas and after the mess
All the creatures were stirring in So Cal. at Starwest.
Everyone piled in with new bikes, clothes and gear
To race, laugh and play before the new year.
On December 28th 2008 riders, families and even a few pros came out to the Christmas Grand Prix at Starwest Race Track in Perris, California. The DJ spun some killer music while families enjoyed a day of racing all in celebration of the Holiday season.

"My Dad Malcolm McCassy the IV, he's the fourth I'm the fifth, owns Starwest Motocross Park and we basically got him and my brothers together, Shane works for Muscle Milk, Jeremy works for Oakley, I work for FMF and we said let's try to bring everyone together during Christmas. There's a lot of hardship and everyone's struggling so we wanted to give them a free race so Muscle Milk, Oakley and FMF all put in the money to offset the overhead and now we're here today at the Christmas Grand Prix. It seems to be giving a lot of smiles to people during the Holidays" said Malcolm McCassy, the fifth.

The race brought out both young and young at heart. Alex Straumwell, age 8, from Murrieta, California said, "I like this race because it's really fun, and I won some goggles." Alex continued to tell me all about the new gear Santa had brought him for Christmas and how he likes to jump. Alex also made sure to tell me, "My favorite rider is Ryan Dungey because he thanks God after each race."
Daniel Carr, age 9, came out to the track from Morena Valley, California, and competed in the 85 7-11 age group. His Father Leroy Carr said the best part about the race was, "seeing the kids come out and have a great time, and seeing everyone enjoying each other."
Clint Craven from Yorba Linda, California is eighteen years old and even he enjoyed the event. "There's a lot of variety, being able to ride and go onto the cement is a good mix. Racing is a family thing, my brother used to race supercross and its good fun for my dad and I."

Brian Deegan took some time to swing by the track and was greeted by eager fans excited to see him race. Beau Manley, Jeremy Lusk and Colin "Scummy" Morrison also made an appearance. Morrison said, "I do freestyle motocross so I'm just trying to finish the race, I get arm pump so bad because I don't train for this kind of stuff so I'm just out here having fun pretty much."

Deegan explained, "It's been a while since I've really came out and dealt with the fans and people and it's about time I need to come out and show face. I remember when I was a kid and I always had my heroes, I was so pumped to see them and just talk to them and I think that's what separates a lot of the top guys that don't ever make the connection to the kids, I just think that means the world to them so that's why I'm out here."
It was a fun day had by all and I was glad to be a part of the excitement. Special thanks to the companies who helped to make this possible: Starwest, FMF, Muscle Milk and Oakley.
