In the City of Angels the 2009 Monster Energy Supercross series saw the most aggressive racing since the season's start. Not only did the track make for some interesting racing, but it managed to stir up a great deal of controversy as well.
There was a particular section on the track that was causing a lot of problems for the riders and even more headaches for the track crew. The riders initially tripled to the top of a tabletop, touched off of the jump, and then doubled into the turn. Rider after rider either came up short or got off rhythm which resulted in a barrage of yellow flags.
There was a general distaste for that section amongst the riders. Ironically, this obstacle made for some of the best racing of the season. Furthermore, it allowed us to see who could really get creative with their interpretation of the track. Finally, Stewart found it. James decided to completely triple over the tabletop and then triple out of the section which resulted in the fastest lap time of the day.
Soon enough Reed, Villopoto and Grant caught on and the riders that could manage the difficult section excelled throughout qualifying. A major surprise was Villopoto's comeback. So far this season Villopoto had remained dormant, although it is obvious now that RV is back and ready to fight his way on to the podium.
In the pits there was almost as much action as out on the track, and here are some of my favorite shots from the event.

On a side note, this weekend I ran into my friend Jordan Delaurier. He told me about a fundraiser coming up, if you are in the area check it out!
