Millville, N.J. (April 21, 2009) - New Jersey Motorsports Park, following its opening last July, remains committed to being as environmentally friendly as the 500 acre facility can be. Celebrating Earth Day and less than two weeks away from the 2009 season opening Verizon Wireless 250 presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16, the green initiatives are continuing for the South Jersey facility.
Beginning with Verizon Wireless 250 featuring the Grand-Am Rolex Series May 1-3, additional recycling bins will be placed around the facility for glass, paper, plastic and aluminum cans. This is in addition to the extensive recycling program already in place for the Breighton Room restaurant and corporate offices.
"The goal for New Jersey Motorsports Park is to show the Mid-Atlantic region and racetracks around the world that it's possible to participate in motorsports and still be concerned about the environment," said Kevin Wittman, New Jersey Motorsports Park General Manager. "While we strive to always improve, the steps we've taken and the products we choose to use and purchase show that we're serious about our environmental impact."
New Jersey Motorsports Park not only selectively chooses which products to use, but also provides services to automobile and motorcycle racers to dispose of potentially damaging fluids. The park, utilizing a program designed by Safety-Kleen, carefully disposes of used motor oil that then becomes recycled, repackaged and resold.
The track's operations and maintenance departments also use a number of environmentally friendly products. If oil is spilled on the track or around the facility, it is quickly cleaned up with a recyclable and biodegradable oil dry. Simple Green-brand non-toxic and biodegradable cleaners are used on a number of engine parts, including the F1 New Jersey karting facility. And though the park has gone "green" naturally with the growing grass around the facility, New Jersey Motorsports Park has on hand a dust suppressant that is made entirely from natural grains and minerals.
These products are in addition to other environmentally friendly aspects involved in other aspects of the park. Used tires act as safety barriers on both Thunderbolt and Lightning Raceways, as well as the F1 New Jersey track. Recycled tire pieces are also being used as ground covering at points around the facility.
New Jersey Motorsports Park plans to further expand and develop environmentally-friendly initiatives in the future, and will host the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup series for clean diesel VW racecars October 11-13.
Sitting on over 500 acres in Millville, N.J., New Jersey Motorsports Park is conveniently located to Philadelphia, the Jersey Shore, New York and Baltimore, and offers diverse and dynamic motorsports attractions.
