Irvine, Calif. --
Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Ryan Villopoto underwent successful
surgery on his left knee Wednesday morning. Villopoto will miss the
remainder of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship.
"This is the best option for me," said Villopoto. "My knee got to the
point where I couldn't race competitively. It is disappointing that I
will have to miss the rest of the season."
Villopoto's teammate, Timmy Ferry will miss the next two rounds of the
motocross season as he continues his recovery from a broken heel. After
trying to compete during the previous two weekends, Ferry and the team
feel it is best for him to continue his recovery away from the races.
"I really pushed hard to get back in time to run the full season," said
Ferry. "I was probably a little to ambitious with my schedule, but I'm
a competitor and I wanted to be out on the track. I'm getting better
every day and I'm going to keep training and riding. I just won't be
racing until I feel I can go out and give it my all."
