Ryan Villopoto was not to be stopped. He looked like the aggressive, blazing fast Lites rider we'd come to be blown away by the past several years as he charged up to the front and forced the issue with Stewart. After trailing closely for a couple of laps, James dropped off the pace and probably went into 'salvage mode'. Regardless, Villopoto deserves a LOT of credit for pushing Stewart up to and past his comfort zone.

It may have been a calculated race, but it was definitely weird to see James Stewart getting passed during a race - let alone getting passed twice!

After a battle that lasted several laps and that had Short eventually get by Alessi, the battle ended when Mikey absolutely cleaned Short out in the turn between the two whoops sections. Short ended up not finishing due to it, and was talking to FIM Ref John Gallagher for quite a while after the race.

Stewart was completely relieved and totally overjoyed by his championship victory. Due to the live TV scheduling there were long breaks where interviewing and everything else stopped, and all James could do was soak in his win. It was fun to watch him going through all of the stages of elation - this was one of the earlier ones.

Ryan Villopoto finally stood in between the two "fastest riders on the planet", which means he beat them both, and that's been his goal all along. It was a nearly miraculous ride for the rookie, and has got to really give Ryan a lot of confidence heading to Glen Helen later this month.

That's all folks, the 2009 Monster Energy Supercross Series is history, and James Stewart is the new Champ. He made a point to say that he'd be back next year to defend it.

Quite simply: Trey Canard was awesome in Vegas. He was absolutely railing all night, and was obviously on almost the exact same pace as the two number 1's that ended up ahead of him at the line. It was cool that the three podium finishers are all champs.

Remember when Millsaps couldn't beat Alessi to save his life? Well that has definitely changed, especially in Supercross. Alessi was having trouble all night and was off the lead pace.

Villopoto capitalized on a small mistake that Stewart made to try and get around - and once he did, he was gone.

This is a nice, friendly but firm block pass, just in case anyone wondered.

Heath Voss nailed the main event start and looked like a lock for the Privateer award. Unfortunately, he seemed to have a mechanical and wasn't able to continue. This handed the crown to Matt Boni, who won the Top Privateer award.

Millsaps went down hard in practice with Broc Hepler, and was suffering the effects for the rest of the night. He put in a solid ride in the main, moving up through a solid pack of riders to end up 10th.
