The speedy Frenchman Christophe Pourcel pulled off his first overall victory of the season, coming out ahead of Dungey, Searle, Canard and the rest at High Point Raceway. Moto one was typical Pourcel, except that he basically walked away with the victory after a solid start up front with his Monster Pro Circuit teammates. Moto two was a bit different, though, as he was stuck looking at the back of Trey Canard's (who was 2nd in the first moto) rear fender for all but two of the final moto's laps. Canard crashed hard going into the off-camber rhythm section, breaking his wrist in the process. Pourcel will be sporting the red number plates of the series leader when it continues at Lakewood in two weeks.

Chad Reed finally pulled off his first ever overall win in a premier class AMA National. Reedy went 1-1 on the day, but it was not without a few battles. In both motos, Reed had to deal with RedBull Honda teammates Ivan Tedesco and Andrew Short to make his way to the front. That took nearly 2/3rds of the 2nd moto, with Tedesco speeding away out front, only to fall down in a corner right after being passed. The red points-leader plate now passes from Mike Alessi to Reedy, who will make his debut at Lakewood in two weeks when the series resumes.

Short was fast and up front all day. Two good starts is always a great way to begin a 35 minute moto, and Andrew managed that yet again. After briefly leading and then battling with Reed in the first moto and ending up 2nd, he was at the rear of the leader's freight train in the 2nd moto, finally capitalizing on teammate Tedesco's mistake in a corner to sneak by for another 2nd, and 2nd overall.

Ivan Tedesco put in an impressive effort to get on the podium again at High Point. He looked to be a solid bet for the 2nd moto win before finally being chased down by Reed. Had it not been for a small mistake, Ivan would've ended up 2nd overall but instead forfeited that to teammate Andrew Short. Regardless, with many of the typical top-3 riders out of the picture now, it's nice to have Ivan back up on the podium as he's clearly driven to get back up there for the remainder of the series.

Ryan Dungey looked good all day, but never showed the tear-thru-the-pack dominance that he has in previous rounds. He seemed to be content with his pace on this track, which he said later he never managed to click with. But 2nd overall's nothing to scoff at, of course, although going 3-2 vs. Pourcel's 1-1 cost him 8 points and the series lead.

Tommy Searle, shown here with nemesis Tyla Rattray in tow. Searle was scored as 3rd in the 2nd moto, which was then revoked due to a protest about jumping on the no-jump flag. That gave 3rd to Rattray, along with 3rd overall, but wait - we're not done yet. After the podium ceremony at the press conference and after Rattray gave his 3rd place interviews, the decision was turned over and Searle was re-instated with 3rd in the moto and overall. Confused?

Canard seemed to be the fastest rider in the 250 class. He ran 2nd in the first moto, although was down quite a ways from the sprinting Pourcel out front. In the 2nd moto, though, Canard was the rabbit and the tables turned, as he seemed to be comfortably fast and just slightly out of reach and heading toward the win (which would've been the overall via a 2-1). That is until lap 13, when Canard crashed on this very jump, going over the bars hard and breaking his wrist in the process. Details aren't known just yet, but it seems he'll be out for a while, at least.

Super-phenom rookie Justin Barcia is finally going through the rookie stages that most go through - and at this point he seems to just be trying to calm down and settle in to a controllable pace. He went 8-5 at High Point, going backwards in the first moto and forward in the 2nd.

Josh Grant's soft-spoken southern hemisphere teammate Cody Cooper put in a couple of very solid performances at High Point, going 8th to 5th in moto one, and 10th to 6th in moto two. He seemed fast and solid all day, and only moved forward for the duration of both motos, which has to be confidence inspiring for the weekend off.

Geico Powersports' lone 450 rider, Dan Reardon, looked to be heading to the front in a hurry in the first moto. Proving what many have said right by being a very fast 450 class racer, Reardon charged from 14th to 7th in 7 laps of the first moto, only to end up on the ground with a dislocated shoulder with 2 laps to go. Reardon's given Reed fits in some Australian nationals before, so it's a shame that yet another potential front-runner is side-lined by injury before the series even reaches its halfway point.

Reed leads the freight train up front in 450 moto 1, as Short and Tedesco follow in close formation. The track conditions were univerally praised as not too rough, not too smooth, not too damp and not too dry. High Point's managed to keep a very unique vibe going when other tracks fit more of a mold.

There was a step-up/over that track builder Marc Peters created following the 1st practice sessions. The goal was to prevent the riders from hitting a huge single at the top of the front straightaway (Bradshaw Boulevard) and landing down in front of the mechanics' area. The idea was sound - make the backside of that single a downside for a step-up. What Peters didn't expect was a rider of Reed's caliber, who used the new takeoff to launch the entire thing and clear the gap on the front straight, landing down by the mechanics. He was the only rider doing it, and it was impressive (however difficult to capture in a photo!).

Who needs Mike Alessi? Brother Jeff seems just as capable of pulling holeshots, and he was at least very close both times at High Point. Reed seems to have graduated from the Alessi clinic too, as he was finally able to get top-3 starts in both attempts, while Josh Grant uncharacteristically struggled a bit with his.

It was a Monster/Pro Circuit freight train up front, spiked with a yellow #10 in the middle of it. The PC bikes finally all got out front (as opposed to the Geico guys), but weren't able to capitalize on it - except for Pourcel, obviously.

Jake Weimer continues to struggle with his outdoor season. While he lead a short bit of the first moto, he fell off Pourcel's pace while running 2nd for several laps, and then just plain fell, getting stuck under his bike for a while in moto 2 and finishing outside of the top 20 in both motos.

Bret Metcalfe flies high over the wacky new infield double, which was slightly off-camber, really big, and launched riders straight up and then straight down into a big valley. Metcalfe demonstrates, but didn't have the best of days despite getting the Muscle Milk recovery award for the day. He went 19-7.
