Jake Weimer combined fast, solid and consistent moto scores of 2-4 to come away with the most points scored in the 250 class at RedBud. Of course, that means that he got the overall win, thanks to inconsistent results from points leaders Ryan Dungey (8-1) and Christophe Pourcel (1-8). The crazy part about that is - even though these two guys scored the same number of points (38), their overall results were separated by 2 positions - in fact, positions 2nd thru 5th TIED in points, so the better 2nd moto performance was the tie-breaker.

JGR Toyota Yamaha's Josh Grant scored his first-ever 450 overall outdoor win, putting in convincing 2-1 moto scores this day at RedBud. Grant was the man to beat all day, running away with both timed practice sessions then hunting down everyone but Chad Reed (in moto 1, and that was close) in both motos to put his stamp on the day. Grant was awesome, no doubt about it, and was stoked to finally land his first big one.

Reed was excellent all day as well, chasing Andrew Short for much of the first moto before making the pass following Short's miscue in picking through braking bumps on one of RedBud's rough descents. Reedy went 1-3 on the day after moving up in the 2nd moto as well, although not quite able to catch Ivan Tedesco for 2nd.

Red Bull Honda Racing's Andrew Short, shown here with Chad Reed in hot pursuit, put in consistent rides in both motos. He looked to have a good chance to run away with the first moto and, had there been anyone less than Chad Reed behind him, he may have been able to do it. Once Reed got by, though, Short also allowed a charging Josh Grant by and fell off the pace pretty quickly. He did manage to hold on to 3rd, though, and went 3-4 for 4th overall.

Tedesco admitted that he pretty much flailed around during the first moto, missing his lines and struggling with his corner speed. He ended up 4th that time, but in the 2nd moto we saw more of the Lakewood Tedesco, as he put on an impressive ride up front for 9 laps after snagging the holeshot. He couldn't stop Josh Grant though, who wasn't to be beat on this day, at this track. Ivan ended the day 3rd overall via his 4-2 scores.

Pourcel continued his streak of consistent inconsistency, although this time he reversed it by a poor finish in the first moto and winning the second. He went down just before the first turn in moto one, along with Broc Tickle and a few others. He ran up through the pack pretty quickly before falling again, breaking his visor off. The 2nd moto was more typical of his first motos this season: patiently stalking leader Martin Davalos and picking him off before walking away with the win.

Villopoto stand-in Ricky Dietrich continues to improve, and to prove that he belongs on that factory Kawasaki. He can sprint at nearly the top guys' pace, then hold a steady top 5'ish pace for the rest of the race. Here he's shown at the end of lap one in the 2nd moto, where he came around 12th, but eventually caught the pack ahead of him and picked off half of them, ending up 6th in the moto.

We're not sure who this guy is, but he finished the 2nd moto after some sort of issue in moto one caused a DNF. He looked pretty strong in moto two, running down quite a few fast names before hitting the wall at the gap between himself and teammate Nick Wey and/or Tyler Bowers for 10th. It was nice, though, to see Lawrence finish a race, and he didn't seem to get completely worn out while doing so, either... he just didn't have the pace to get past Wey and Bowers.

In 450 moto 2, Reed hounded Tedesco for many laps, trying several times in the corner following the whoops to square up and shorten the run to the tabletop. Ivan was always able to speed around the outside though, and held off Reedy to the checkers.

Welcome back, Martin. Once again, Davalos holeshot moto two (just like he did in Lakewood last weekend) and led the race for a while. Hot on his wheels, though, was that pesky Frenchman and former world champ Pourcel, who just chilled and waited for a nice spot to make a clean pass on the Ecuadorean. Davalos looked good out front for 5 laps, eventually fading to 5th.

For several laps in 450 moto 1, Justin Brayton hounded Jimmy Albertson for 10th as they both moved through the pack slowly. Here, Brayton finally finds his way around for 9th, although he eventually fell and ended up 11th, again behind Albertson who managed a 9th in the moto.

This was a fun race to watch, as Metcalfe - who was riding great in 3rd for 12 laps of that first 250 moto, couldn't withstand the onslaught of the kid from New York. Barcia finally got around with 2 to go and ended up 3rd.

Impressive was he, this young Brit, as he appears to be quickening his pace and has definitely taken over the lead position on the Muscle Milk/MDK KTM team. He looked great at RedBud and said he thoroughly enjoyed everything about the track, facility and his performance for the day. He nailed another podium overall with 3rd overall via his 5-2 finishes.

Complete with his Livestrong Fox gear, Dungey won moto one like the champ many expect him to be. A hard crash in moto two left him with a damaged front brake which allowed him to muster only an 8th place. These finishes mirrored Pourcel's, which means they both scored the same amount of points on the day.

This is one of the last times we'll have seen Tyla Rattray on a race track in 2009. At the end of lap 2, Rattray swapped and fell fairly hard in a sandy corner just before the finish line. The report by the end of the race was "injured thumb", which appeared to be possibly broken, but no reports were available. He DNF moto 2.

The pack spreads out across the lush RedBud soil on the way to the first turn. This was just moments before the crash that claimed Pourcel and Tickle just before the first turn.
